The State Library was established in 1826 to collect, deposit, and house the Commonwealth's collections of maps, statute books, and government documents in a single central location. Since that time, the State Library has grown into a multifaceted and reliable resource for legislators, executive personnel, state employees, historians, genealogists, and users from all over the world.  Located in: Massachusetts State House, 24 Beacon Street, State House Room 341, Boston, MA 02133

Beth Carroll-Horrocks is currently the Head of Special Collections at the State Library of Massachusetts, which is in the recently re-opened Massachusetts State House in Boston. Her entire career working in manuscripts and special collections repositories has been devoted to preserving things that were not expected to last very long, and providing access to them. Besides graduate degrees in history and library science, she has also earned certificates in fund raising management and museum studies, and has been taking courses in genealogical studies for many years. She serves on the board of the Ephemera Society of America.
