“MGS Day at MSA” will feature several activities that require reservations and payment, a place to eat a brown-bag lunch, and volunteers on hand to lend extra support. Registration is only available online and only for members for this event.
Michael McCormick, Director of Reference Services at MSA, will give a presentation about the online “Guide to Government Records,” the combined catalog and database that is essential to using original Maryland sources. Bring your own laptop and follow his navigational instructions in real time. Two behind-the-scenes tours are also scheduled.
Presentation seating will be limited to 15 participants at each of the two sessions, 9:15 AM and 11:15 AM, to ensure that attendees have a chance to try out their new skills immediately. Tours are also limited to 15 participants for logistical reasons.
Cost of registration is $20 per person. All proceeds will be donated to the Friends of the Maryland State Archives in recognition of the special welcome and support extended by the staff. This activity is a new one for MGS, so we are gauging member interest. If the day is successful, we will consider repeating the event, perhaps on a more regular basis.
