PEP Files in the National Personnel Record Center (Military Files of the Rich and Famous)

Presented by Lori Berdak Miller.

The PEP in PEP files stands for Persons of Exceptions Prominence. Files might be found for military servicemen and women, athletes, medal of honor winners, politicians, entertainers, musicians, and other unexpected celebrities in other fields. The Department of Defense (DOD)  working with NARA are allowing these records to be viewed within 10 years of the date of death of the person. This lecture focuses on these files. The lecture is set up like a gameshow – so COME ON DOWN! You are the next contestant on the PEP Military File Gameshow!

Lori Berdak Miller is a military researcher/genealogist based out of the St. Louis area. She runs her own company, Redbird Research LLC. It gives Lori pleasure to aid individuals, genealogists, military collectors, authors, television shows, museums, foundations, and associations in answering their military questions. Having NARA-St. Louis in her backyard (almost), allows her daily access to their record collections. Being in the middle of the USA also allows opportunity to travel easily to other research facilities.

Besides researching, Lori has given lectures for the St. Louis Genealogy Society and Ohio Genealogy Society conferences, and the Columbia, Missouri Library system. Teaching engagements include IGHR and SLIG. Attending classes at GRIP, conferences and other facilities furthers her personal education. Lori is a member of various societies and associations including APG, NGS, STLGS, MOSGA, CSGI, OGS, and OMSA.
