Professional genealogists are hired for any number of reasons. We’ll explore the decision making process in deciding to hire a professional. Once that decision is made, then what? We will discuss ways of evaluating the professional genealogist’s skill, education and experience in order to hire the best professional for your particular research project.
Dianne Jimmink can’t remember a time when she wasn’t interested in genealogy. Being a lover of history and the product of two very different lineages (colonial settlers and early 20th century immigrants) she was always pestering her grandparents for family history and stories. Dianne was rolling through miles of microfilm in the National Archives and court houses long before the advent of computers.
After researching family for most of her life she realized “what she wanted to be when she grew up” and began to formalize her genealogical training. She has a certificate from Boston University’s Genealogical Research program, attended the Genealogical Institute on Federal Records at the National Archives, as well as attended many National Genealogical Society Conferences and Genealogical Research Institutes of Pittsburgh.
In addition to her own family, Dianne loves researching families for others. There is something special about the thrill of the hunt. One never knows what you will find. She is looking forward to the day she can retire from her day job and become a full-time genealogist.
