Genetic genealogy is one of the most exciting and groundbreaking advancements in genealogical research, but it can be confusing (and expensive!) as well. If you’ve been following its advancements in the news, you may know that there are many different companies selling DNA tests, as well as several different types of tests. But how do you know which to buy? And what would be the most useful test, or tests, for your particular research needs
Come to the Maryland State Library Resource Center’s 18th Annual Genealogy Lecture Series, featuring Diahan Southard. Ms. Southard will present the following lectures:
- Three DNA Tests = Three Times The Fun
- The YDNA Test Should Be Your Favorite
- Three Next Steps for Your DNA Test
Please call 410-396-5468, or email mdx@prattlibrary.org, to register. Limited parking available on site. Parking gargares and street parking also available close by. Lunch will be provided. If you have a dietary restriction, feel free to bring your own lunch to eat on site.
After earning a degree in microbiology, Ms. Southard started her career working for the Sorenson Molecular Genealogy Foundation, one of the first efforts to create a correlated genetic and genealogical database. She has since started Your DNA Guide, where she provides personalized, interactive experiences to assist individuals and families interpret their genetic results. She also lectures at both national and local conferences, is the author of several quick guides on genetic genealogy, and is a regular contributor to Genealogy Gems. You can find her writing in Family Tree Magazine and Genealogy Today, as well as many other small writing engagements.
Ms. Southard will be conducting 20 minute onsite one-on-one consultations to provide more personal guidance on your DNA test results on Friday, March 15th. If you have already taken a DNA test, and are interested in meeting with her, click here to make an appointment for a session.
